Why did you become a franchisee? I became a Sangster’s franchisee first and foremost because of my father. He had health issues and went to the first Sangster’s in Calgary at Marlborough Mall just as I was entering university to study nutrition. I saw the difference it made in him so I knew I wanted to study nutrition.
How did you choose your franchise?
I chose Sangster’s because it’s a Canadian franchise. I’ve also worked at many of the other franchises after university and liked the Sangster’s model. I liked that it’s still run and owned by a Canadian family from the prairies.
What do you enjoy most about being a franchisee?
I truly enjoy that I can empower the consumer with education and knowledge whereby they have control to change their lives. My father always told me that educating the consumer is the most important part of running a health food business. Taking supplements incorrectly will be ineffective in alleviating the symptoms. With knowledge comes a healthy lifestyle that we can be happy about.
In what ways do you support or get involved in your local community? Why is this important to you?
I support a variety of community groups such as Inn from the Cold and various seniors groups by donating products for their monthly events. I used to volunteer a lot my time before I opened the shop, so it’s very important to give back and be part of the community. Our entire family is very community-based and grew up with my parents as role models in regards to volunteering our time or giving back to the community in other ways.
