Why did you become a franchisee?
I decided to become a Firehouse Subs franchisee because I was ready for a career change. I’d spent many years working in Corporate Canada and decided to explore business opportunities that would allow me to work for myself. After doing some research, my business partner and I came across Firehouse Subs, and after investigating further, quickly fell in love with the product, the brand concept and the opportunities to grow quickly — a key consideration in our decision making. Now, two restaurants later, we’re happy with our choice.
How did you choose your franchise?
My partner and I believe any brand that is successful has to be better and different in some way than its competitors. Not only does Firehouse Subs stand apart for its quality product, but its commitment to community and support for first responders through the non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is part of the brand’s DNA. It’s one of the main reasons we decided to join the brand, and we’re happy to help further spread this life-saving mission.
What do you enjoy most about being a franchisee?
It’s hard to name one thing I love most about being a Firehouse Subs franchisee. For one, I enjoy being part of a family of franchise operators who believe in generously serving both food and community. The support we’re able to provide local first responders through the Foundation is one of the best parts of owning a Firehouse Subs restaurant. Additionally, the support we receive as franchisees from the brand is incredible. I also love being able to introduce our brand to new guests in Canada. Not a day goes by where I don’t meet someone who isn’t blown away by the quality and delicious flavor of our steamed hot subs. Our guests often say it is the best sandwich they’ve ever eaten.
In what ways do you support or get involved in your local community? Why is this important to you?
As a brand, Firehouse Subs takes pride in supporting the local community. Our restaurants in Whitby and Ajax, Ontario sponsor local sports teams, support community fundraisers, and through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, they’ve donated more than $44,000 in life-saving equipment to both the Whitby Fire Department and Pickering Auxiliary Rescue Association. Our first responders put their lives on the line to keep us safe, and the donations the Foundation makes better equip them with the tools to do their jobs. It feels great knowing we play a part in helping make our community a safer place.
